Google Veo 3.1 prompt guide
Veo 3.1 makes eight-second scenes with sound: dialogue, effects and music in the same take. Write the scene, then what is said and what is heard.
What Google Veo 3.1 takes
- Takes a prompt, a first frame and a last frame.
- Clips of 8 seconds.
- Aspect ratios: 16:9, 9:16.
- Settings: 720p · 8 s.
- From 80 credits per clip.
The order to write a prompt in
- The scene in one sentence: who, where and what happens.
- The camera and the look.
- What people say, in quotes, and who says it.
- The sounds and the music.
Tips
- Eight seconds fit one or two short lines of dialogue; longer speech gets rushed or cut.
- Put each line in quotes and say who speaks and how: an old fisherman says quietly, "Storm’s coming."
- Name the background sound so the scene does not feel empty: wind, traffic, a crowd, rain.
- Ask for no music if you plan to add your own.
- A first and a last frame join two pictures with the motion between them.
Example prompts
A rainy night street in Tokyo. A woman in a yellow raincoat stops under a neon sign and looks at her phone. Handheld close-up. She says softly: "He’s not coming." Rain patters on her hood, distant traffic, a low synth hum.
Inside a busy pizza kitchen, a chef tosses dough high into the air and catches it. Medium shot, warm light. A coworker shouts: "Order up!" Pans clatter, oil sizzles, upbeat Italian music.
A golden retriever runs across a beach at sunset toward the camera. Low tracking shot in slow motion. Waves crash, the dog barks twice, gentle acoustic guitar.
