GPT Image 2 prompt guide
GPT Image 2 is OpenAI’s image model, and the one to pick when the picture has to carry words: posters, packaging, menus, slides and signs. Write it like a brief: what the image is for, the scene, the subject, the exact text, then what must not change.
What GPT Image 2 takes
- Takes a prompt and up to 4 reference images.
- Aspect ratios: 1:1, 3:4, 4:3, 4:5, 9:16, 16:9.
- Settings: 2K · High.
- From 6.5 credits per image.
The order to write a prompt in
- What the image is for: an ad, a poster, a menu, a product shot. It sets how polished the result looks.
- The scene and the subject: setting, materials, light, framing and the medium (photo, illustration, 3D).
- The text, word for word in quotes, with its style, colour and place: a bold white headline across the top.
- The limits: what must stay as it is, and "no extra text or logos".
Tips
- Put every word that should appear in quotes and add "exactly as written, no extra characters". Spell an unusual brand name letter by letter.
- Say where each piece of text goes and how it looks: the size, the weight, the colour and the alignment.
- For an edit, name one change, then what to keep: "keep everything else the same". Repeat the keep list on every new edit, so the picture does not drift.
- With several images, refer to each by its order and say how they combine: "put the bottle from the first image on the table in the second image, matching its light, perspective and shadows". Up to 4 images.
- For a photo look, say "photorealistic" outright. RenderHour runs GPT Image 2 at high quality, which OpenAI suggests for small or dense text.
Example prompts
A concert poster for a jazz night. A saxophone player silhouetted against a deep blue spotlight, smoky club atmosphere. At the top, large bold cream letters: "BLUE HOUR SESSIONS". At the bottom, smaller: "FRIDAY 9 PM · THE CELLAR". Text exactly as written, no extra characters or logos.
A photorealistic product shot of a matte green coffee bag standing on a wooden counter, morning light from a window. The front label reads "MOUNTAIN ROAST" in a clean serif font, with "Single origin · 250 g" below it. No other text.
Change the sign above the shop door to read "OPEN LATE" in red neon letters. Keep everything else the same: the building, the people, the light and the camera angle.
